In partnership with the Y7 students at Swanmore College, we will be supporting the Rainforest Alliance UK as part of our Charity Awareness Scheme. A collection tin will be out all week, and we’ll hold a full Charity Awareness Day on Saturday 7th March. All you have to do is come in and have a coffee, because 50% of our takings will go direct to this very worthy cause!
Rainforest Alliance UK is a non-profit organisation, whose aim is to protect forests, improve the livelihoods of farmers and forest communities, promote their human rights, and help them mitigate and adapt to the climate crisis. Further information is available via www.rainforest-alliance.org/uk.
In celebration of St.Davids Day later this week, our friends at Bishops Waltham Country Market have been baking yummy Welsh cakes for you all! They are now on offer at Barnaby’s for just £1 for 3. They are perfect with a cup of tea or coffee, but when they are gone, they are gone!
It’s all going to go a bit Welsh again this week, in celebration of St. David’s Day and the Welsh Eisteddfod.
In Welsh culture, an Eisteddfod is a festival of literature, music and performance. The tradition dates back to the 12th century, when a festival of poetry and music was held by Rhys ap Gruffydd at his court in Cardigan. He invited poets and musicians from all over Wales, and a seat at his top table was awarded to the best of them. It is a tradition that prevails in the modern day Eisteddfod.
We won’t be going that far, but we will have rousing Welsh hymns, lots of castles to look at, and yummy Welsh cakes on offer! So, anyone know what Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau means…?
In continuation of our Valentines Day theme, this Saturday will be a Charity Awareness Day for the British Heart Foundation. Half of our takings on the day will be sent to the BHF, along with the contents of the red tin by the till. Please give what you can.
BHF’s vision is a world free from the fear of heart and circulatory diseases. They fund research to keep hearts beating and blood flowing.
Love is in the air next week, so it’s “Buy One, Get One Free” in Barnaby’s on Friday! Just come on in with your wife, husband, boyfriend, girlfriend, running buddy, someone else’s wife, their Scrabble partner etc etc, and we’ll pay for their hot drink.
Displayed on the wall will be a selection of Marie Kennards fabulous Valentines wreaths.
As part of our ongoing support for charities with a connection to the Village, we will be holding a Charity Awareness Day on Saturday for Trinity Winchester. 50% of our takings on the day will be given to this incredible venture, along with the money from the tin by the till.
