Classic cars raise over £100 for Macmillan
Some truly stunning classic cars gathered outside Barnaby’s this Saturday, as part of our Classic Cars @ Barnaby’s series that runs until October. Images can be seen on our Facebook page.
As ever, our fabulous volunteers ran a popup coffee shop in support, offering tea, coffee and homemade cakes. It raised well over £100, which we’ll be giving to Macmillan Cancer Support.
Our next gathering of classic cars is on Saturday 27th August.
Come and say “Thank you” to Bill on Saturday 16th July
You are invited to join the BBT on Saturday 16th July at 1030 in a celebration event to thank Bill Jones for everything he has done to contribute towards the success of Barnaby’s.
(No need to RSVP – just turn up!)
Bill has been an integral part of Barnaby’s since the very beginning. His enthusiasm, positivity, can-do attitude and straight-talking style have been exactly what Barnaby’s has needed, in good times and in challenging times. Bill has always spoken up for our volunteers, for good coffee, and for the village. He justly deserves a celebration of his efforts, and a well-earned rest. Thank you Bill!
We meet the RNRMC
The subject of our Charity Awareness Scheme (CAS) this month is the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC). We have an RNRMC rep in the village and a serving Royal Marines soldier – both were in Barnaby’s on Saturday.
As will all CAS events, half of our takings on the day were added to whatever donations were made by you – our fabulous customers – and given straight to the RNRMC.
About the RNRMC – serving in the Royal Navy or Royal Marines represents an enduring commitment to protecting our island nation. This commitment is not without sacrifice. Those who serve can find themselves in a uniquely difficult and dangerous environment facing extended periods of time separated from loved ones, often with very little opportunity for communication. Head to rnrmc.org.uk to find out more.
Meet ‘Aurora’ and friends this Saturday
On Saturday 18th June, we’ll be hosting a number of trainee dogs from Hounds For Heroes as part of our Charity Awareness Scheme. Come and meet ‘Aurora’ and her handler John Branson. She is a 12-month old golden retriever in training for Hounds For Heroes. In the next year, she will join a higher training program ahead of becoming an assistant dog. John will be able to tell you the amazing things that these dogs are capable of and how they are trained.
Half of Barnaby’s takings on Saturday will be added to your donations, and sent to Hounds For Heroes. Please come and give them your support.
Classic car owners raise £182 for JST
The second in the Classic Cars @ Barnaby’s series was a great success, with a large number of cars on show for the first time. Some came from as far east as Bosham and as far north as Guildford. Word is clearly getting out!
As before, Barnaby’s popup coffee shop was there in support. Event organiser Alastair Walton offered to give all of the days takings to the Jubilee Sailing Trust, and £182 was donated! As luck would have it, JST Ambassador Roger Morfill was in Barnaby’s having a coffee, so we sent him home with a big cheque! The picture shows Sarah Walton handing it over to a very happy Roger.
Thank you to all who came, enjoyed, and donated. Our next Classic Cars @ Barnaby’s event is on 25th June.
In support of the Meon Valley Lions Club
This Saturday, we will be showcasing the work of the Meon Valley Lions Club through our Charity Awareness Scheme. This scheme has already raised close to £3,000 for good causes in 2022, as reported in the Swanmore Link magazine.
Come along and meet the Lions this Saturday – learn about the amazing things they do to support those close to us, and the events they have coming up later in the year. The Big Blue Bus might even be here! Head to www.meonvalleylionsclub.org.uk for more information about this great charity.
Groundworks outside Barnaby’s
As some of you know, we recently received Planning Permission for our new all-weather awning. The groundworks started on Thursday 5th May, and will take two weeks to complete. While this is going on, not all our outdoor seating at the front will be available, but there’s plenty round the side where we have recently added more tables!
Classic Cars season kicks off
Our Classic Car Summer kicks off this weekend, with a welcome return to a collection of stunning vehicles from private collectors around the Meon Valley.
PRE-1990 CARS WELCOME
NO NEED TO REGISTER – JUST TURN UP
DOORS OPEN 1000 to 1230
With up to 50 cars expected at each event, we’ll be in the main car park opposite Barnaby’s. If you are attending, you may arrive any time from 0945, when a marshal will show you to a space where you can display your car. The event will be supported by Barnaby’s “popup” coffee shop, serving coffee, tea and yummy homemade cakes made by our friends at Bishops Waltham Country Market. Barnaby’s will nominate a charity on the day, and all our proceeds will go to that charity.
Head to https://barnabys.coffee/classiccarsummer for details of all our gatherings this year.
